ESDA3 Research Project
Explorations into Spatial Design and Architecture incorporating Art contribution and Air participation. Creative form production and environmental integration.
ABOUT
The research focus of the ESDA3 research project evolves around four particular axes. These axis are: Art, Spatial Design, Architecture and Environment. Specifically, ESDA3 investigates the contribution of art on finding new solutions in spatial design and architecture and involves air as a crucial part of this process. It examines dynamics of art elements that can be used for the creation of spaces or part of spaces, providing the opportunity of air passage through the configured forms. The potential of air flowing through art-driven architectural constructions constitutes a fundamental factor of the particular design thinking and it gives a new motive and advanced prospects to spatial design and architecture. The investigation moves forward by classifying the generated forms for serving either indoor or outdoor uses and by integrating them in environmental explorations with computational simulations. In particular, the impact of form configuration/organization on issues as natural ventilation of buildings, building energy performance, microclimate and thermal comfort is examined. Thus, the concept of this research conforms to sustainable approaches of contemporary theories and enriches the architectural synthesis with innovative qualities and features. Moreover, it attaches positive influences on human lives by responding to needs related with art integration, esthetics perception, good air quality, energy saving and appropriate spatial atmosphere.
The aims of the research are the following:
1. Innovation in architecture with the contribution powerful characteristics of art
2. Development of a new motivation for creating art into space with the participation of air.
3. Integration of artistic freedom in architectural forms
4. Novel input in design through art contribution and air participation
5. Use of art in spaces of everyday life with bioclimatic benefits for human beings (e.g. renewal of air, energy saving etc).
6. Enhancement of environmental conditions in spaces of everyday life.
7. Satisfaction of physical (through air) as well as psychological and cognitive (through art) needs of people in spatial environments which respect the natural environment.
8. Accordance with contemporary theories of sustainability.
9. Knowledge communication and encouragement of new researchers in dealing creatively with art, air, space, design and architecture.
